Challenge

The Ethiopian Revenue Authority needed to modernize its tax collection and compliance monitoring system. The existing process relied heavily on manual data entry, paper-based receipts, and fragmented databases. This led to significant revenue leakage, slow processing times, and difficulty identifying non-compliant businesses. The system needed to handle millions of transactions across diverse business types while complying with evolving Ethiopian tax regulations.

Approach

We conducted an extensive discovery phase with tax officials, accountants, and business owners to map every workflow. We designed a modular, cloud-native architecture that could scale horizontally to handle peak filing periods. Machine learning models were trained on historical tax data to identify anomalies and predict non-compliance risks. We implemented a phased rollout strategy, starting with large enterprises before expanding to SMEs.

Solution

The Tax Intelligence Platform features automated VAT calculation and e-receipt generation fully compliant with Ethiopian regulations, a real-time dashboard for tax liability monitoring, an AI-powered risk scoring engine that flags suspicious filings, multi-language support in Amharic and English, secure API integrations with major Ethiopian banks, and a mobile app for taxpayers to file returns on the go.
